BIO – Wayne Neville Smith

Born -  22 Nov 1947 at Auckland.

Educated - Manurewa High School

Joined RNZN 26 Feb 1964 as Junior Recruit (Electical)

Discharged 12 April 1987 as Warrant Officer Radio Electrical Artificer

On discharge joined HMNZ Dockyard as Electronics Technician serving in the Combat Systems Unit.  Served 10 years in HMNZ Dockyard as a technician thence to the Fleet Repair Group as a Quality Assurance Officer.   The Fleet Repair Group became the Fleet Engineering Center thence the Logistics Command (Maritime).   During this period became the Quality Assurance Manager with responsibilities for quality assurance and safety.   Retired from the LC(M) 27 Feb 2015.

Joined the VR 1 Aug 1990 as S/Lt, immediately promoted to T/Lt of Naval Control of Shipping branch.

Discharged from NR in 2013 as Commander RNZNVR having served as Staff Officer (NCS), HOD NGA, XO NGA and on the Naval Reserves Advisory Board.

In all, served 51 years in Defence in various capacities.
